Operation Daniel Boone

On April 18, 1967, MACV-SOG was ordered to commence Operation DANIEL BOONE, a cross-border recon effort in Cambodia.

Both SOG and the 5th Special Forces Group had been preparing to conduct cross-border operations in Cambodia. The 5th Group had already established Projects B-56 Sigma and B-50 Omega, units similar to SOG's SHINING BRASS organization. Operation SHINING BRASS had been conducting in-country recon efforts on behalf of the Field Forces, awaiting authorization to begin the Cambodian operations.

Both units wanted the mission but the Joint Chiefs of Staff decided in favor of MACSOG. Operational control of Sigma and Omega was eventually handed over to SOG.

Project DANIEL BOONE was renamed to SALEM HOUSE in December 1968. SALEM HOUSE  became THOT NOT on April 1971.
