The Green Berets
By Robin Moore
First published in April 1965
 |
Robin Moore went through Special Forces
training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a civilian and then
accompanied Special Forces Soldiers into combat in South Vietnam.
He was going to write a book of non-fiction but thought the story of
Special Forces would best be told as fiction. The book was later
made into a very popular movie starring John Wayne entitled
The
Green Berets. This book
is very descriptive of Special Forces operations in South Vietnam
during the early years of the conflict.

This is the story of the war in Vietnam - written as a novel
but based on the true stories of America's Green Berets. The
book and later the movie was the inspiration for many young men
to join the Army's Special Forces.
Retired Major General Thomas Csrnko provides a foreword that
reflects on the history and the future of the U.S. Army Special
Forces. Csrnko was a career Special Forces officer who commanded
the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center
